These Big Companies Own Your Food Choices

Although you may stand in a grocery aisle with what seems like an endless array of choices of different brands to choose from, a new infographic shows just how little choice you have in who manufactures your food.

Let’s say that you’re having a barbecue and decide to grab some beer, chips and soda for your event.  As you stroll down the beer aisle you might not realize that Coors, Foster’s, Blue Moon, Peroni and a bunch of other brands are all owned by MillerCoors.  You turn around to grab some chips and get to choose from Tostitos, Lays, Cheetos, Ruffles and Doritos…brands all owned by PepsiCo. Finally, you make your way over to the soda but 91% of the brands in that aisle are owned by one company – Coca-Cola.

If you choose to boycott a brand as you might have done when we discussed Donald Sterling, your choice to stop supporting a brand might be limited.  Some companies like P&G, Kraft and PepsiCo own brands that span multiple aisles and entirely different products.  The infographic below shows just how limited your food choices really are.
